Islamabad: Situated at a distance of merely 9.4 Kilometers from Pakistan’s Parliament, Shahzad Town was transformed into a battlefield after unidentified armed gunmen resorted to indiscriminate firing apparently in a bid to keep the protesters at arm’s length.
It all happened on Thursday as dozens of locals armed with batons stormed an ongoing inauguration of a housing society in Shahzad Town area of Islamabad. The villagers were protesting against non-payment of dues.
The protesters smashed the windows of the vehicles parked in the parking lot. It all happened in the presence of the Islamabad Capital Territory police.

In a video clip which has gone viral on social media In the video clip of the incident, a man wearing shalwar kameez, can be seen shooting in the air amid a melee of people. Meanwhile, another man in a similar attire and equipped with another gun out of a black pickup truck parked by the roadside but is stopped by a third man.
While the firing is ongoing, a policeman reaches the spot and tries to stop the shooter. Soon after, the men are seen fleeing the scene.
Alarmed by the incident, Islamabad police chief Dr Akbar Nasir Khan suspended some police officials who were supposed to maintain law and order in the area. Taking notice of the incident the Inspector General of Police ordered action against those involved after a video of two men indulging in aerial firing in the capital’s Chak Shahzad area was shared on social media.
