MULTAN: A special court in Pakistan’s ancient city of ‘Multan’ sentenced to jail four people for raping the wife of their friend and making video of her.
Court took three years to decide the case. Police in Multan’s Gulgasht Police Station had lodged an FIR under sections 276 (2) and 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code on May 27, 2018 on the complaint of Muhammad Shahzaib who accused Muhammad Akram, Awais, Asif and Nauman for raping his wife in front of himself in the room of a private hospital.
Police quoted the victim as saying that he had requested Mr. Akbar who worked with him at a shop at Gardezi Market to arrange a room for him to spend a night with his newlywed bride.
According to local media report, the accused arranged the room at the hospital and locked the couple in the room from outside and later in late night hours, he along with his other three others tied him with ropes and gang-raped his wife.
He alleged that the accused also beat him and made the video of the rape.
He stated that the accused, all his friends since school time, stanched their mobile phones and threatened with posting the videos online if he informed their families or the shop owner about the incident.
He stated that he informed Akram’s father and the shop owner about the incident and the accused confessed to their crime before them.
The raped woman first recorded her statement in the favour of the influential accused people, however, the prosecution provided her counseling regarding the sensitivity of the crime that her statement against the accused persons would not only get the culprits convicted but would also encourage other victims of such crime to stand. She recorded her statement against the culprits.
Judge Hassan Ahmad handed down 13-year imprisonment and Rs170,000 fine to main person, Muhammad Akbar, and 10 years imprisonment to the three others besides the fine of Rs150,000 each.
