Gaza Unveiled: Unraveling the Complexities of Conflict and International Scrutiny

The current stalemate in Gaza emanates from Israel’s hysterical reaction to the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7. Israel resorted to brutal relentless Ariel Bombardment on unarmed innocent civilians, causing the mass slaughter of tens of thousands of women and children at a rate that is unprecedented in history. The indiscriminate heavy bombing has razed and leveled to the ground dwellings, schools, hospitals, mosques, and churches, to the point that 70% of all infrastructure in Gaza has been destroyed. Consequently, up to 1.9 million people (over 85% of the population) have been displaced across the Gaza Strip, some multiple times as families are forced to move repeatedly in search of safety.

Israel’s war on Palestine’s Gaza and the Humanitarian catastrophe in the blockaded enclave is only becoming more critical as survivors face severe hunger, diseases, and intensifying winter chill. The UN Secretary-General in a recent briefing termed this as a clear violation of International Law. He lamented of obstacles being posed to aid at a time when a massive increase in Humanitarian supplies is needed; only 7 out of 21 missions can proceed. He further pointed out that 82 journalists, over 136 UNRWA aid workers, and 52 UN Staff members have been killed in Gaza, the largest number of deaths in UN history.

Israel has carved out a strange logic of right to self-defense, at a time when it is carrying out a genocidal military campaign against the defenseless Palestinians. Anyone criticizing Israel against the gruesome atrocities being unleashed on the Palestinian people is termed as anti-Semitic. However, Israel seems to be least qualified to make this assertion. The fact of the matter is that the Israelis have failed to learn a bit from the Holocaust. Quite the contrary, their Prime Minister has emerged on the world stage as the modern-day Hitler.

Erdogan Labels Netanyahu ‘Butcher of Gaza’ Amid Escalating Tensions

Israel is fast losing on the PR and narrative front as evidenced by the overwhelming critics on the social media and mammoth protest rallies, which continue with increased momentum all across the world. The estimated 400,000-strong rally in DC last weekend, the largest Palestine protest in the history of the United States, despite the cold wheatear, the Metro and flight cancelations, and the supposed fatigue after 100 days of protesting, indicates that the movement for Palestine will not go away until Palestine is free from the River to the Sea.

Several leading political analysts are airing their views with interrupted flow that is highly critical of Israel. Among the notable ones are: Dr. Norman Finkelstein, a political scientist and an expert on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling Israel as a Jewish supremacist state and views it as committing the crime of apartheid against the Palestinian people; Andrew Feinstein, former ANC member of parliament says that Israel was practicing its brand of apartheid in the occupied

territories, that there is an affinity for the Palestinian struggle, which is seen as very close to the South African struggle minus the mass slaughter; Prof. Noam Chomsky considers Israel’s treatment of Palestinians worse than the South African-style apartheid and criticizes US support for Israel; Prof. John Mearsheimer, the author of the book titled “The Israel lobby and the U.S Foreign Policy” states that decision making in US, by and large, follows the lead of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and terms this as the Zionist Capture; Jeffery Sachs, President US Sustainable Development Solution Network said in an interview to Al-Jazeera that Israel is going far beyond going after Hamas, it is inflicting massive pain and punishment on the civilian population.

Miko Peled, an Israeli-American activist states that it is unbelievable to imagine that the 1948 Nakba (catastrophe) caused by Israel happened only 3 years after the Holocaust, displacing 700,000 Palestinians though forced settlements, and added that they stole a country in full bloom. Scott Ritter, a former U.S marine and weapons inspector in his analysis that Israel has failed to manage the ground battle taking heavy casualties in terms of both men and material, and also failed to manage the release of hostages, which has infuriated the Israeli public to carry out heavy protest rallies.

With the advent of South Africa taking Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the issue has been assigned to the body of Law rather than the spin of the traditional mainstream corporate media. It is at ICJ that Israel is being examined closely in precise judicial proceedings, of what it has said and what she is doing. South Africa has filed and pleaded a compelling case expressive of genocidal intent on the part of Israel. The team of South African solicitors argued upon the intentionality of Israel in destroying Gaza to a level where it becomes inhabitable.

In doing so Israel makes no distinction between Hamas and the civilians, blocking necessities of life together with the combination of public statements from the Prime Minister to the President to the Defense Minister, proclaiming insistently to implement the cataclysmic and regressive notion of Amalek and openly declaring to wipe Palestine off the map. South Africa has also called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants to the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and other Israeli leaders for “statements of genocidal intent” and other alleged war crimes.

No matter what the Hague rules, Israel is bent on continuing its genocidal campaign. Israel cares about the Americans and not anybody else. They don’t care about the world’s opinion; they think of almost all, as gentiles and anti-sematic anyway.

What matters to them is American backing. The question here is, will the U.S. abandon them if the ICJ rules against Israel, which is likely? It is at the UN Security Council where ICJ rulings are ratified and enforced. In the event of VETO, the one who will suffer most in terms of PR is the U.S. If this happens, it will be a permanent moral stain on the US reputation.
