Islamabad: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker on Tuesday submitted his resignation to party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after the opposition alliance-Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) asked opposition lawmakers to hand over resignations to party leaders to use them at the appropriate time.

Local media reports said on Thursday that Ali Haider Gilani, who was elected MPA from the Punjab PP-211 constituency, wrote in his resignation letter:

“Today in order to further the democratic struggle in Pakistan, I hereby tender my resignation to you, to be used at your will.”

The son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said that he had resigned as a token of his unconditional allegiance to the party.

The resignation came after Chief of the PDM, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, requested all opposition members to give their resignations to their party leaders by 31 December.

Earlier today, Pakistan’s Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Nawaz Sharif, reportedly persuaded PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to resign from parliament at a ‘appropriate time,’ Daily Pakistan announced.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hamid Hameed resigned from the lower house of the country’s parliament in an effort to overthrow Prime Minister Imran Khan’s administration.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan blamed the opposition for spreading coronavirus, saying they were holding rallies.

Blaming opposition groups, Khan said They are spreading coronavirus by holding rallies.”
