Peshawar: Terrorists shot dead four women activists in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw province , police said in a statement on Monday.
The attack took place in the morning on Monday near the village of Ippi, a few kilometres east of the town of Mir Ali, senior police official Shafiullah Gandapur told reporters.
Women were identified as Javeria, Irshad, Ayesha and Naheed. The cold blooded murder of above mentioned women has sent shocking waves across Pakistan.
The statement from the district police in North Waziristan said unidentified gunmen fired at a vehicle carrying the women near Mir Ali, a major town in North Waziristan that borders Afghanistan.
“The ladies reportedly working for NGO (non-governmental organization) have been targeted and killed by terrorists,” the statement issued from District Police Officer’s office stated on Monday.
” Investigation is underway, while police teams have been dispatched to conduct a search and strike operation in the Mir Ali area to trace the terrorists,” police statement said.
Police said the driver of the car was injured and shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
It is important to mention here that no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack. The authorities routinely blame militant groups for attacks in the tribal districts.
Located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, North Waziristan used to be a hotbed of militancy, but security forces have successfully quelled the militancy flushing out the terrorists from the area following a couple of securty operation.
