Quetta: At least five people were killed and 10 others wounded in a blast that occurred near a sub-construction building in Pakistan’s Chaman City on Monday, police said.
According to law enforcement officials, an improvised explosive device (IED) was mounted to a motorcycle in the Mall Road area of the city, reports The Express Tribune.
As a result of the explosion, Window panes of several shops and houses in the vicinity were shattered. Security forces have cordoned off the area whereas the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility so far.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, while expressing grief over the loss of lives, has strongly condemned the Chaman blast and prayed for the recovery of those injured.
Chaman is considered a critical town in Balochistan because it shares a border with the volatile Kandahar province of Afghanistan. In March of this year, at least nine people were injured in an explosion along the city’s Levies Row. The attack was aimed at Levies Risaldar Maj Naseebullah, who remained secure.
In recent months, Balochistan has witnessed an increase in attacks. At least one person was killed and six others were injured after an explosion in Turbat bazaar on July 21.
