In an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in Balochistan’s Mach and Kolpur areas, the military’s media wing reported the martyrdom of four members of law enforcement agencies and two civilians. The operation successfully thwarted three coordinated attacks by terrorists using rockets and sophisticated weapons in Mach town, situated approximately 70 kilometers from Quetta, the provincial capital.
Four more soldiers sacrifice lives in a terrorist attack in Balochistan
Initially attributed to the Aslam Acho group by interim Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai, responsibility for the attack was later claimed by the Majeed Brigade of the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Security forces promptly responded to the assault, engaging in a prolonged gun battle with the terrorists.
According to ISPR, during the night of January 29/30, 2024, multiple terrorists, including suicide bombers, targeted Mach and Kolpur Complexes in Balochistan. Law Enforcement Agencies effectively responded, resulting in the elimination of nine terrorists, including three suicide bombers, and the injury of three others.
As the final clearance operation in Mach is still underway, interim Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai provided updates, stating that seven militants were killed, stabilizing the situation in the area. Despite the terrorists’ reliance on external support, the security forces’ determination led to the failure of their malicious plans.
The Trauma and Emergency Centre at Quetta Civil Hospital reported 13 people injured, with two in serious condition. Caretaker Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki condemned the terrorist attack and directed all available resources to restore peace in the area, emphasizing the coordination of security agencies for the protection of citizens.
Interim Balochistan Home Minister Mir Zubair Jamali strongly condemned the attack, ensuring that those involved would be brought to justice. The terrorists targeted various locations, including a railway station, police stations, and the central jail, firing at least 15 rockets. Security forces responded promptly, preventing major casualties and damage to installations.
Balochistan Inspector General Prisons Shuja Kasi confirmed the impact of rockets near the central jail but assured the safety of prisoners. Additionally, a police station in the Gokrt area was attacked, but levies and security forces thwarted the assault. The situation remains dynamic as efforts are underway to restore normalcy and bring the perpetrators to justice.
